Tom Quilty has had a distinguished career leading, managing and advising organizations on internal and external computer crime investigations. His expertise includes Software Piracy, Trade Secret Theft, Component Theft, Identity Theft, Other High Tech Crime Investigations, and Computer Forensics. Tom advises corporate counsel in obtaining civil judgments or preparing a case for criminal prosecution and assists law enforcement in obtaining criminal prosecutions. As a trainer, Tom has presented numerous presentations and training classes to both law enforcement and industry, including the National District Attorney’s Association and California Department of Justice. He possesses a strong record in developing techniques and methodologies for risk mitigation of both internal and external threats including Executive Protection.
Tom’s distinguished tenure includes the REACT High Tech Crimes Task Force San Jose, CA; the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office and The Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office. Most recently, Tom was on loan’ to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), REACT High Tech Crimes Task Force from the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office. During Tom’s eight years with the REACT Task Force, he had the opportunity to focus on criminal investigations affecting the High Tech Industry. His notable cases include a three year undercover operation which recovered more than $450 Million in stolen software; a Trade Secret Theft involving $20 Million in source code; and the two highest seizures of pirated music and movies in US History. Tom is a retired US Army Reserve Officer. Tom has his own consulting and investigations company and recently completed an investigation of a trademark infringement case for Philips Electronics in which over $2 Million in contraband DVD recorders were seized. He attended Excelsior College in New York.
Tom has received numerous awards including the NATO Medal, United Nations Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal and the US Department of State Meritorious Honor Award for service in Bosnia Herzegovina as Aide and Political Advisor to United Nations Special Representative Jacques Paul Klein and as International Police Task Force Liaison (IPTF). |
